Training Specialties

What We Train

Every Rocky Mountain K9 training program is built around your dog's specific needs — not a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Here are the core areas our certified trainers specialize in.

Basic Obedience

Sit, stay, come, leave it, and heel — the core commands every dog needs for a safe, harmonious life.

Advanced Obedience

Distance commands, off-leash reliability, place training, and complex verbal and hand-signal cues.

Leash Manners & Loose-Leash Walking

No more pulling, lunging, or reactive leash behavior. Walk with confidence beside a calm, focused dog.

Behavior Modification

Structured programs to change unwanted patterns including jumping, destructive behavior, and resource guarding.

Anxiety & Fear Programs

Systematic desensitization and counter-conditioning for dogs with separation anxiety, noise phobias, or fear reactivity.

Aggression Management

Dog-to-dog and human-directed aggression cases handled by certified trainers with proven, safety-first protocols.

Puppy Foundation Training

Early socialization, bite inhibition, and core obedience for puppies ages 8 weeks and up. Start them right.

Off-Leash Reliability

Build the recall and environmental focus required for safe off-leash freedom in parks, trails, and open spaces.

Whether your dog is a brand-new puppy building their first foundation, an adult dog with learned bad habits, or a reactive dog that makes walks feel impossible, our Utah dog training programs are designed to meet them exactly where they are. We serve dogs of every breed, size, and temperament across all five of our Utah locations.

Our Process

How It Works

From your first call to your dog coming home a new animal — here's exactly what the Rocky Mountain K9 training process looks like.

STEP 01

Free Consultation

We start every training relationship with a thorough consultation — in person or by phone. We'll learn about your dog's history, temperament, specific behaviors, and your goals. This is how we determine which program is the right fit.

STEP 02

Custom Program Design

No cookie-cutter plans here. Based on your dog's assessment, we build a day-by-day training structure targeting the exact behaviors and skills your dog needs. Every program is tailored.

STEP 03

Training Begins

Your dog enters our facility and begins daily structured sessions with a certified trainer. Sessions are layered and progressive — each day builds on the last. You'll receive regular photo and video updates throughout.

STEP 04

Handler Education

Before your dog comes home, you attend a mandatory handler session with your trainer. We teach you everything: the commands, the reinforcement schedule, how to read your dog's body language, and how to handle backslides if they happen.

STEP 05

Follow-Up & Ongoing Support

Training doesn't end at checkout. Included follow-up sessions let us troubleshoot anything that comes up at home and keep your dog's skills sharp. We're in your corner long after the program ends.

Our Approach

Why Our Training Works

Dozens of dog trainers operate in Utah. Here's what sets Rocky Mountain K9 apart — and why our programs produce results that last well beyond graduation.

1

Certified Professional Trainers

Every trainer on our team holds professional certifications in canine behavior and training methodology. This isn't a side gig for our staff — it's their specialty.

2

Science-Based Methods

We train using behaviorally sound, evidence-backed techniques. Our approach is built on how dogs actually learn — not trends or TV show gimmicks.

3

24/7 Reinforcement Environment

Residential training dogs live in our facility, meaning every interaction throughout the day reinforces the structure they're learning. Results build faster because consistency never breaks.

4

Daily Photo & Video Updates

You stay connected to your dog's progress throughout the program. We send regular updates so you can see the transformation happening in real time.

5

You Learn Too

Handler education is not optional — it's required. Your dog can leave our facility a different animal, but without you knowing how to maintain those skills, results fade. We make sure that doesn't happen.

All 5 Utah Locations

Training programs are available at all five Rocky Mountain K9 locations across Utah County, Summit, Weber, Tooele, and Wasatch County. Find the facility closest to you.

Utah's Premier Dog Training Facility

Rocky Mountain K9 operates across five Utah locations — American Fork (Utah County), Grantsville (Tooele County), Heber City (Wasatch County), Ogden/Washington Terrace (Weber County), and Park City (Summit County). Our dog training programs are available at all five facilities, giving dog owners across northern and central Utah access to professional, certified training without excessive travel.

Our residential dog training programs — sometimes called "board and train" programs — are one of the most effective paths to lasting behavioral change for dogs. Rather than meeting with a trainer once a week, your dog lives in our structured, supervised environment and receives multiple professional training sessions per day. This intensity accelerates progress dramatically compared to traditional at-home training alone.

We specialize in the cases that frustrate other trainers: dogs with severe anxiety, leash reactivity, resource guarding, multi-dog aggression, and fear-based behaviors. Our Behavior Transformation and Premier Residential programs are specifically designed for these complex cases, with experienced trainers who understand the behavioral science behind what's driving the problem — not just the surface-level symptom.

After every residential program, your dog doesn't just leave better-behaved — you leave better equipped. Handler education sessions ensure you understand how to maintain, reinforce, and build on everything your dog has learned. This is the part most dog training programs skip. We don't.
